21st CC

Globalisation, technological and demographic changes, these are some of the challenges Singapore is facing today. In response to these 21st century challenges, MOE has identified the following competencies to help prepare our students for what lies ahead in what is now known as the 21st Century Competencies.

 Core Ring: Values

Values shape the beliefs, attitudes and actions of a person, and therefore form the core of the framework of 21st Century Competencies.

Secondary Ring: Social and Emotional Competencies

Skills necessary for children to recognise and manage their emotions, develop care and concern for others.

Outer Ring: 21st Century Competencies

Necessary for the globalised world we live in. They include:

  • Civic Literacy, Global Awareness and Cross-Cultural Skills;

  • Critical and Inventive Thinking;

  • Communication, Collaboration and Information Skillls.

  • Introduce the 21st Century Competencies initiative.

  • Examine the intended and unintended outcomes of having differentiated Social Studies curriculum in achieving the government’s larger purpose of ensuring economic competitiveness and social cohesion.
